Midwifery care for people without Ontario health cards
Midwives are able to care for women who are uninsured and are residents of Ontario.
If you do not have a health card, you will need to show a document that proves that you are a resident of Ontario. The list of acceptable documents includes:

If you are not a resident of Ontario, we unfortunately cannot care for you. We also cannot care for you if you are an international student (in Canada on a study permit). Here are some suggestions for finding free or low-cost care when you are ineligible for midwifery care.

Fees for clients without Ontario health cards

Midwifery care is free for all residents of Ontario, even if you do not have a health card. The government of Ontario also provides funding for routine lab tests and ultrasounds, pregnancy-related physician services, and supplies for a home birth.
Uninsured clients who deliver at hospital are responsible for the cost of staying at the hospital.

- Mortgage, rental or lease agreement (must be the formal legal agreement)
- Bank statement mailed to your home
- Mobile phone bill mailed to your home
- Statement of direct deposit for Ontario Works
