Mississauga is a very diverse city, and our client population reflects that. We care for many women who are newcomers to Canada. We often care for women who are not fluent in English, and women who do not have OHIP coverage.
The boundaries of our catchment area include Kipling Avenue to the east, Mavis Road to the west (Credit River south of Queensway), north in Etobicoke to Rathburn Road and in Mississauga to Steeles Avenue, and south to Lake Ontario.
The midwives in our practice work in a shared care model, typically in teams of two, with teammates rotating between one week on-call/in clinic followed by one week off call. Students in our practice are generally precepted by a team of midwives, and are allotted the time off call mandated by the MEP. At this time, all midwives in our practice are graduates of the Ontario MEP.
The hospital we hold privileges at is Trillium Health Partners- Mississauga (100 Queensway W, Mississauga ON). The midwifery department at Trillium is large and well established. Midwives at our hospital enjoy full scope privileges and excellent working relationships with our inter-professional colleagues. We expect that students at our practice will be able to get to the hospital within 30 minutes under typical conditions.
Currently, our home birth rate is approximately 10-15%.
